Weihnachtsillustration / Christmas Illustration

DE: Ich liebe es, mir Zeit und Ruhe für größere und komplexere Illustrationen zu nehmen. Die Arbeit an diesem Bild war jedoch ein Auf und Ab der Gefühle (zum Glück mit Happy End!).
Je komplexer das Bild wird, desto mehr Farbschichten trage ich in der Regel auf. Hier war die größte Herausforderung die ganz besondere Lichtstimmung und die großen Schattenflächen. An so einem Bild zu arbeiten, heißt für mich auch immer ein wenig „Bangen bis zum Schluss“, denn bevor nicht alles koloriert ist, lässt es sich schwer abschätzen, ob alles stimmig ist. Weil man im Prozess gleichzeitig aber auch super viel lernt und sich ganz auf das Bild konzentriert, hat das Arbeiten an solch einer Illustration für mich dennoch immer etwas besonders Wertvolles und Erdendes.

EN: I love to take my time to work on larger and more complex illustrations. However, this work in particular had its emotional ups and downs (luckily with a happy ending!).
The more complex an illustration gets, the more colour layers I need to add. The biggest challenge with this project was to get the special lighting atmosphere right and handle the large sections with shadows. Working like this is always a time between hope and fear until the end. It is hard to know whether everything will look like it is supposed to before the coloration of the whole sheet. I learn so much all the while being really focussed on my work, that the process in itself is something quite precious and grounding.
